چکیده

In order to obtain better insight into the robustness of in vitro percutaneous absorption methodology, the intraand interlaboratory variation in this type of study was investigated in 10 European laboratories. To this purpose, the in vitro absorption of 3 compounds through human skin (9 laboratories) and rat skin (1 laboratory) was determined. The test materials were benzoic acid, caffeine and testosterone, representing a range of different physicochemical properties. All laboratories performed their studies according to a detailed protocol in which all experimental details were described and each laboratory performed at least three independent experiments for each test chemical. All laboratories assigned the absorption of benzoic acid through human skin the highest ranking of the three compounds (overall mean flux of 16.54 g/cm/h). The absorption of caffeine and testosterone through human skin was similar, having overall mean maximum absorption rates of 2.24 g/cm/h and 1.63 g/cm/h, respectively. In 7 out of 9 laboratories, the maximum absorption rates of caffeine were ranked higher than testosterone. No

Survey of Integrated and Non-Integrated Formulae on Suspended Sediment Load; Case Study: Soolegan River, North Karoon Basin, Iran

Predictions of suspended sediment load for Soolegan River, Iran using selected empirical equ-ations were made based on 355 data sets. Data include flow discharges from 3.11 m3/s to 43.81 m3/s, flow velocities from 0.22 m/s to 1.03 m/s, and flow depths from 0.5 to 1.03 m. Equations of Einstein (1950), Bagnold (1966), Toufalleti (1968), Brooks (1963), Chang-Simons-Richardson(1965),Lane-Kalinske (...

Non-animal approaches for toxicokinetics in risk evaluations of food chemicals.

The objective of the present work was to review the availability and predictive value of non-animal toxicokinetic approaches and to evaluate their current use in European risk evaluations of food contaminants, additives and food contact materials, as well as pesticides and medicines. Results revealed little use of quantitative animal or human kinetic data in risk evaluations of food chemicals, ...

Predicting binocular visual field sensitivity from monocular visual field results.

PURPOSE To compare methods of predicting binocular visual field sensitivity of patients with glaucoma from monocular visual field data. METHODS Monocular and binocular visual fields were obtained for 111 patients with varying degrees of glaucomatous damage in one or both eyes, using the Humphrey 30-2 full-threshold procedure. Four binocular sensitivity prediction models were evaluated: BEST E...

Overview of important cervical cancer screening process values in European Union (EU) countries, and tentative predictions of the corresponding effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.

The objective was the evaluation of the (cost-)effectiveness of cervical cancer screening in the European Union (EU) countries. Data were collected on recommended screening age ranges and intervals, coverage, proportion of non-negative smears and smear use. Estimates reported by representatives of each participating Member State were compared, and used as input for model based on (using the MIS...

Long-term Effects of Bioaccumulation in Ecosystems

Extensive damage to organisms and declines in wildlife populations have been observed together with long-term bioaccumulation and biomagnification of persistent xenobiotic chemicals. Heavy metals, especially organic or biomethylated mercury, lead, cadmium and organic tin compounds have caused environmental damage through bioaccumulation on a local scale. Effects on wildife caused by bioaccumula...
